Works Update - Loco Shed

Glass Installation to Lantern Area

The Loco Shed's roof has a raised 'lantern area' running down the centre. Having never previously been sealed, Brendan Kelly took on the task of creating new, matching fixings to get the area glazed. This will assist with temperature regulation, along with closing off an entry point for birds. Although you may never see them all the way up there, each fitting and fixture has been painted to heritage spec. As the refurbishment goes on, it's these small touches that help maintain its history and charm.

Drainage Improvement Works

With the assistance of funding through the Victorian Government's Living Heritage Grants, the exterior drainage has been vastly improved - pushing water well away from the foundations of the building. Echuca-Moama's TJN Plumbing & Earthworks undertook the job, with deep trench excavation, new stormwater piping, submersible pump and external guttering - it's leaps-and-bounds ahead of where it was.

Internal Sealing

Echuca's MHP Painting & Decorating took on the task of cleaning down the internal lantern area, removing debris and bird droppings - then giving the whole area a complete re-seal. These works contribute significantly to keeping birds out, and the further preserving the internal areas of the Loco Shed roof.

Window Restoration Works

Thanks to the efforts local Brendan Kelly (Kelly's Fine Furniture), all the external rectangle windows have now been reglazed. The decision was made to use toughened glass, not only will this assist in keeping the building safe from the elements - it also prevents birds from entering the Loco Shed and causing any further damage. Following the West and East facing windows, work on the porthole and archway windows is set to commence soon.
